How a run goes

Every run is one age. Your tribe charges up the road, and three moments decide how it ends.

  1. Hunters
    Beasts
    Fire Totem

    Choose your doors

Doors come in pairs, and never two gifts. One grows the tribe, the other costs you men. Or both hand you men of a class, and only one class answers the wave that is coming: Hunters pierce armour, Beasts fight hand to hand, and a Fire Totem burns a packed crowd.

  2. Hold the barricade

Halfway up the road your tribe stops behind a row of stakes and the horde comes to you. It works around your fire to the weakest stakes, while spearmen or firebrands throw over the top. Stand where the wall is being eaten, and don’t stand where the spears land.

  3. Bring down the boss

Every age ends with a boss, and each boss is weak to one of your three classes. Past half its health it loses its temper and calls up a horde of its own. Beat it and bank enough score, and the next age opens.

Between runs

Train at camp

Every run brings back food. Spend it on a bigger starting tribe, stronger Hunters, Beasts and Fire Totem, or better luck at the doors.

The chief decides

Clear an age and the chief takes one of three decisions: sharpen the spears, tame the beasts, raise the stakes, send scouts and more. It holds until you ascend, and the camp tells your tribe’s story in the order you chose it.

Choose your road

After a run, pick the next road from two skies. Dusk brings firebrands, night raiders come out of the dark, rain douses fire and fog hides the horde until it is close. Night, storm and fog pay extra food.

Ascend

Clear all six ages and you can climb again from the bottom. The ages lock, the world gets harder, and every run pays more. Your food and training come with you.

Five lives

A run only costs a life when you lose it, and your first few runs cost nothing. Lives come back one every 20 minutes. Out of lives? Wait, or watch a short ad for one more.
